The Bogles of New Jerusalem (& Linskell)
Ann BARNETT (BOGLE, Anna / ae 44 yrs in 1861 / Irish / CofE Petersville
Parish Census) Ann was b. about 1809, probably in Ireland; d.1889 New Jerusalem,
Queens Co. She was the daughter of George Barnet(t) and Jane [Burke?].
Ann m.1*) 14 Apr 1834, in Saint John, NB, to Samuel LINSKELL
(who d.ca.1834/1835, Queens Co.) {*19 Apr 1834 New Brunswick Courier = m. Mon. last, by Rev. Robert
Wilson, Samuel LINSKELL / Ann BARNETT, both of Hampstead, Queens Co - also
in City Gazette}
Samuel died before 23 Feb 1835, for on this date his will was probated.
In it he was listed as being of Jerusalem settlement. Witnesses to this
will, writen 1 Jun 1834, were James Barnett and Margaret Barnett. His father-in-law,
George Barnett, and James Graham witnessed a petition relating to the probate
on 23 Aug 1835. All his property was left to his wife, Ann. They are thought
to have had no issue.
There was a land petition for a Samuel Linskell, dated 26 Mar 1821,
on which he was listed as a widower, with one child. He was 31 years of
age, born in England. He had served seven years in His Magesty's Navy,
and had been in the province for three years. His first wife's name is
unknown, and possibly took place in England. Samuel second marriage was
to Mary Ricker of the Parish of Hampstead, Queens County, NB, on 21 Mar
1822.
His child may have been a son (b. ca. 1811/4), and it could have been
this "child" that Ann married in 1834, although Samuel, Sr. was only about
44 years of age in that year. Family tradition also states that Samuel's
son died young, as a "lad". Further searching is needed before Ann's first
husband can be definitely determined. No Linskell graves have been found.
