Machum Family of New Jerusalem

Alexander Machum (d. 20 May 1868 aged 71 years) (62-1861 / Baptist) came from Ireland in 1818. His wife was Margaret Carson (d. 8 Oct 1878 aged 82 yrs) (62-1861 Baptist). They are buried in the Machum Cemetery, New Jerusalem.

  1. Alexander (5 Sep 1819 in Saint John, NB - 29 Mar 1897) (41-1861 / 51-1871 school teacher) m.1) Elizabeth Frances Inch (d. 8 Aug 1891 aged 61 yrs) (31-1861 / 41-1871 dressmaker) d/o Nathaniel Inch. He was also m.2) to Ann Inch, Eliza's older sister.

    2. Thomas William (10-1861/19-1871 farmer) m. Alice Smith [Phebe Alice ?] d/o Capt. Robert & Sarah Smith. They lived awhile at Millville, York Co, NB; Sackville, NB and on the farms in Jerusalem, the last being the Robert Smith farm, which was owned by Frank Machum in 1952.

    10. OBIT: MACHUM, Walter Franklin - The death of Walter Franklin Machum, husband of the late Elva (Hamilton) Machum, of Queenstown, NB, occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton, NB, on February 27, 1996. Born at New Jerusalem, NB, he was the son of the late Frank and the late Lillian (Howe) Machum. He was self employed as a trucker and woodsman and also worked for the City of Saint John before his retirement. He always has a great love for helping others and enjoyed baseball, community dances and had a special interest in his cars and trucks while his retirement was spent gardening and travelling. He is survived by his only daughter Dorothy, (Mrs. Kenneth Dale) of Queenstown, NB, four grandchildren: Dwane and his wife Veronica, Kimberley, Kelly and Darren, his three great grandchildren: Joshua, Matthew and Devon, his three sisters, Elsie Inch of Public Landing, Helen McKinney of Greenwich Hill and Edna Gallagher of Blacks Harbour, several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two brothers, Clarence and Howard and his sister Nita Johnson.


    11. Resting at Brenan's Bay View Chapel, 1461 Manawagonish Road with visiting Wednesday 7-9 p.m. and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from Bay View Chapel. Interment in Oak Point Baptist Cemetery. The family would greatly appreciate memorial donations to the Oak Point Baptist Cemetery instead of flowers.

Alfred Machum. William was a Sheriff of Queens County, and moved his family to Gagetown where he was drowned by going over the end of the Gagetown Ferry. William had lived on the original home of Alex Machum, and his son, Cecil sold it to Albert Davis. Kenneth Webb, nephew of William, obtained it from Albert.
