Biographies of Teachers 

This list combines in alpha order, both the teachers who came from other areas to teach in one of the community schools and those born in one of the communities within the Base Gagetown area. You will find a listing of the teachers who taught in the various community schools, linked from the community pages.

ADAMSON, E. Louise - d/o Robert H. Adamson and his wife [---] Sweeney. Louise taught at the Summer Hill School for two terms: the 2nd Term 1908, and the 2nd Term 1912. She also taught at the West Jerusalem School for the term 1913-1913. She m. Frank Jewett and resided in the greater Fredericton area.

ADAMSON, Marguerite (also see STAPLEDON) taught at Coote Hill School for the 1942-1943 terms. She also taught at the West Jerusalem School for the terms 1942-1942 (Jan-Jun), 1943-1944, and 1947-1952.

ALLINGHAM, Izetta J. - She taught at the Armstrongs Corner School in 1924- 1925 & 1928-1929 & at the Dunns Corner School for the Sep to Jun 1931 terms

ALLINGHAM, Orie Margaret - Taught at the West Jerusalem School for the term 1920-1920; the Armstrongs Corner School in 1922-1924 & the Dunns Corner School for the Jan to Jun 1925 term., and taught at Coote Hill School for the 1925-1927 terms. taught at the 

ALLINGHAM, W. H. - William Henry was aged 49 yrs in 1901, and was m. to Mary Jane Hamilton, and had 7 children living at home.
    He taught at the South Clones School for the term ending Dec 1885 and the following term in 1886. He the taught at Dunns Corner School for the Winter 1887 to Summer 1888 terms, the Winter 1896 to Summer 1897 terms, and back to South Clones School for the first term in 1889

ARMSTRONG, Lyda E. - She taught at the Upper Hibernia School in 1932, and the Summer Hill School for the Sep 1932 - Jun 1933 terms.

ARMSTRONG, Winnifred - She taught at the Dunns Corner School for the Sep 1915 - Jun 1916 terms, and at the Summer Hill School for the 2nd Term 1916, and at the North Clones School for the 1917 Dec. - 1918 June terms.

ARNOLD, Isabel - She taught at the South Clones School in 1911, the last year this school was operating. She had only four students that term.

ARNOLD, Minnie - taught at Coote Hill School for the June 1919-1920 terms. 

BACON, Amelia - She taught at the Dunns Corner School for the Winter 1882 and Summer 1883 terms. (see also BEACON, A.J. & Jennie A.) 

BAMMAN, Muriel - She taught at the North Clones School for the 1906 Dec term. (Surname may be Gammon ?)

BARNETT, Dorothy Eunice - d/o John Leonard Barnett & his wife Idora Edith Webb of New Jerusalem. Dorothy taught at the Summer Hill School from Sep 1950 to Jun 1951, and at the Coote Hill School for the 1951-1952 terms.
    Shortly thereafter she entered preparations to be a teaching missionary in Africa (Angola and The Belgim Congo). Upon the death of her father she returned home to stay, and has since m. John Carron. They reside in Moncton, where she has taught school for a number of years, and is now retired.

BAXTER, Alfred - He taught at the Dunns Corner School for the Winter 1898 to the  Winter 1900 terms.

BEACON, A.J. / Jennie A. - taught at the Coote Hill School for the 1893-1894 terms. (see also BACON, Amelia)

BLOCK, Oral- He taught at the North Clones School for the 1929 Dec. 

BOGLE, George - was the s/o James Bogle and Ann Barnett, and resided in New Jerusalem. The 1871 census of Petersville Parish said he was aged 24 years, b. in NB, a member of the Church of England, and a teacher. By 1891, he was listed as Bogle, George, ae 46, b, NB, bith parents b. in Ireland, a Presbyterian, and a School Teacher.
    St Peters Anglican Church records his christening as: 1846 Jun 14 / George / James & Ann / BOGLE / farmer / b. 7 Nov 1843. His stone in the Hill Baptist Cemetery, New Jerusalem, Queens Co, NB reads: 1845-1907. 
    He m. Emily G. SHERWOOD, of Bonny River, Charlotte County, NB. Although she is said to have d. in 1887, there is a burial in the United Church Records for a Mrs. George Bogle, of Jerusalem (& buried there, aged 60 yrs) who d. 13 Jan 1907. They had at least three children. 
    George was teaching by 1871, and taught in the Summer Hill School on two occasions, ten years apart:  Winter - Summer 1882;  1st Term - 2nd Term 1892 (Believe these terms are Jan - Jun & Sep - Dec.) He taught at the West Jerusalem School for the term 1884-1884. He may also have been teaching at the North Clones School in 1889 and 1890 - when a George Boyle shows on the listing.

BOGLE, Samuel - was the s/o James Bogle and Ann Barnett, and resided in New Jerusalem. Samuel / ae 11 yrs in 1861 / native / CofE / Samuel / ae 20 yrs in 1871 / unmarried / teacher / both from the Petersville Parish census records. In the 1881 census he had only gained 6 years.) 
    He was b. about 1845, in Queens Co. According to family lore, Samuel moved to Saint John to live, and operated a trucking business there, but no further data has been found for him, to date. He is not on the 1891 census with the rest of the family.

BORDEN, Stella Mary - She taught at the Dunns Corner School for the Sep 1928 to the Jun 1929 terms.

BOYLE, George - He taught at the North Clones School for the 1889 and 1890 terms.

BRAMBLE, Rose - taught at the Upper Hibernia School in 1940-1941

BROOKS, Mary - taught at Coote Hill School for the June 1953 term - when the school closed.

BUCHANAN, Dorothy - She taught at the North Clones School for the 1952 June

BURGESS, Margaret - d/o Alfred E. Burgess and Edith E. Inch. Margaret (1891-1926) was the first wife of Caswell Vallis. They lived in New Jerusalem, and Caswell later moved to Glenwood. She was listed as Maggie Florence, aged 10 yrs, on the 1901 census of Petersville Parish.
    She  taught at the Armstrongs Corner School in 1911

BURTT, Annie - d/o Charles Samuel Burtt and Ruth Elder. Annie was b. in New Jerusalem and moved with her family to Blissville. She m. Byron Carr.

CALDWELL, Arthur - She taught at the Dunns Corner School for the Sep to Dec 1913 term.

CARMICHAEL, Donald - He taught at the Armstrongs Corner School in 1894

CLARKE, Annie C.  - She taught at the North Clones School  for the - 1930 Jun, and at the Summer Hill School for the Sep 1937 to Jun 1938 terms, and at Coote Hill School for the Dec 1939 term.

CLARKE, Jennie - She taught at the Upper Hibernia School in 1929 & 1930 and at Summer Hill School for the Sep 1931 to Jun 1932 terms.

COOPER, Charles J. - He taught at the South Clones School for the term 1879 Oct 31

COOPER, Ida - She taught at the South Clones School in 1899, both terms in 1900 and for a term in 1901.

CORBETT, Doro (Dora or Dorothy ?) - taught at Coote Hill School for the 1917-Dec 1918 terms.

CORBETT, Emily V. - The 1891 census of Petersville Parish lists her as Emily V., aged 25 yrs, a teacher in the Common School. Parents, John J.P. Corbett and Jane [---], and she was Church of England. The 1901 census, for the same parish, adds her birth date as 04 Oct 1865 in Ireland, and she was listed as Free Baptist.
    She taught at the Dunns Corner School for Winter 1885 and Summer 1886 terms.

CORBETT, Helen A. - She taught at the Summer Hill School for the Jan 1927 - Jun 1927 term.

CORBETT, James S. - He taught at the North Clones School for the 1879 Oct 31 term

CORBETT, Jennie - She taught at the Armstrongs Corner School in 1921

CORBETT, Louisa C. - The 1891 census of Petersville Parish lists her as Louisa Lorne., aged 19 yrs, a teacher in the Common School. Parents, John J.P. Corbett and Jane [---], and she was Church of England. The 1901 census, for the same parish, adds her birth date as 16 Apr 1871 in New Brunswick, and she was still listed as Church of England. She m. [---] Adamson in 1906.
    She taught at the South Clones School for terms in 1887 & 1888, and in the Summer Hill School for 1st Term 1890, and for 1st Term 1898 to 1st Term 1899. She taught at the Dunns Corner School for the Winter  and Summer 1893 terms, and the Winter 1894 term (& prob. Summer 1894), and at at the North Clones School for the 1904 Jun term, and at the Coote Hill School for the 1904 to Dec 1906* terms, then back to the Dunns Corner School for the Sep - Dec 1906 term. (She was at Dunns Corner at that date.)

CORBETT, Margaret - She taught at the North Clones School for the 1914 Jun term, and at the Dunns Corner School for the Jan to Dec 1920 term, and taught at Coote Hill School for the 1952-1953 terms, when the school closed.

CORBETT, Marion - She taught at the Dunns Corner School for the Sep 1941 to Jun 1942, then for the Jan 1943 - Jun 1943 terms. And later she taught the Jan to Jun 1946, and the Sep 1947 to Jun 1948 terms.

CORBETT, Otty L. - He taught at the Dunns Corner School for the Sep 1932 to Jun 1933 terms, and at the Summer Hill School for the Jan 1934 to Jun 1935 terms.

CORBETT, Rita A. - She taught at the Summer Hill School for the 2nd Term 1917, and the Jan 1919 - Jun 1919 term at the Dunns Corner School
    She is probably the 3 yrs old daughter of Albert Mills Corbett and his wife Ada Isetta Hamilton, listed with them on the 1901 Petersville Parish census. She was b. 17 May 1897 in New Brunswick.

CORCORAN, Eileen - She taught at the North Clones School for the 1942 Dec term.

COSMAN, Olive - taught at Coote Hill School for the 1922-Dec 1923 terms.

COY, Ethel M. - She taught at the Dunns Corner School for the Sep to Dec 1909 term. 
    She is probably the 13 year old daughter of Joseph Ebbett Coy and his wife Fannie Harding listed on the 1901 census of Petersville Parish. She was b. 17 Aug 1887 in New Brunswick.

CRAFT, M. Miles - He taught at the Dunns Corner School for the Winter 1879 term. 

CRAWFORD, Ruth - taught at the Upper Hibernia School in 1922.

CRUICKSHANK, Jennie - She taught at the Dunns Corner School for the Sep to Dec 1945 term.
