You will find a listing of the teachers who taught in the various community schools, linked from the community pages.

MacDONALD, Agnes - taught at the Summer Hill School, for the 1st Term 1900. She is listed in the 1901 Petersville Parish census as Agnes C., aged 22 yrs, Presbyterian, b. 04 Nov 1878, in Scotland. She is living in the home of her mother, Helen L. (Laing) McDonald. The 1881 census adds her father's name as Robert.

McKENZIE, Wilfred- s/o Rev. John C. McKenzie and his wife, Catherine (Kate) Brundage. Rev. McKenzie was at time the pastor of the Lake Baptist Church. Wilfred m. a Miss Vale of Bald Hill and they moved to Saint John. In the 1891 census of Petersville Parish he is listed as Wilford, aged 29 years, a Teacher, Common School. His father is listed as a Clergyman of the Free Baptist Church. Wilford - taught at the Armstrongs Corner School in 1891

MACHUM, Addie- d/o William A. Machum and his 3rd wife, Ida Kee. She remained unmarried and resided with her brother Burgess.

MACHUM, Alexander - s/o Alexander Machum and Margaret Carson, from Ireland in 1818. The 1871 Petersville Parish census lists him as MACHUM, Alexander / M / 57 yrs / b. NB / FC Baptist / Irish / School Teacher / Married. He was the father of James Alexander Machum hereafter listed. Alexander is still listed as a Teacher of the Common School in the 1891 census of Petersville Parish. He was aged 71 yrs, and a Free Baptist. Alexander was b. in Saint John 5 Sep 1819, and d. in New Jerusalem 29 Mar 1897. He was m. twice. First to Elizabeth Frances Inch (d. 1891 aged 61 yrs) and second to her older sister Ann Inch. Both daughters of Nathaniel Inch, Sr. and his wife Ann Armstrong. He taught at the West Jerusalem School for the term 1885-1887.

MACHUM, Annie - taught at the South Clones School in the first term of 1884.

MACHUM, EDNA - d/o Frank (Thomas Franklin) Machum and his wife, Lillie (Lillian M.) Howe. Edna m. Dell Gulligher and lived in Charlotte County. In 1996 they were in Blacks Harbour.

MACHUM, Edith M. - d/o George Alfred Machum and his wife, Esther Rebecca Anne. Howe. Edith d. 7 Mar 1917 aged 24 yrs. She is listed in the 1891 Petersville Pariah census, aged 8 yrs, Methodist. Her birth date was 11 Mar 1893.

MACHUM, James Alexander - son of Alexander Machum (see above) and his wife, Elizabeth Frances Inch. The 1871 Petersville Parish census lists him as MACHUM, James Alexander / M / 21 yrs / NB / W Meth / Irish / School Teacher. He is not listed in the 1891, not 1901 census records of this Parish.

MACHUM, Maud - d/o William A. Machum and his 3rd wife, Ida Kee. She was born in 1879, and d. in 1951. She remained unmarried.

MACHUM, William A. - s/o Samuel Machum and his wife [---]. The 1891 Petersville Parish census lists him as: Machum / Wm.A. / 22 yrs / Son / b. NB / parents b. NB / FCBaptist / School Teacher. He taught at the West Jerusalem School for the term 1889-1889, 1899-1900, 1901-1901

MAHOOD, Augusta S. (Gussie) - d/o George Adains and (poss.) his wife Sophia Jane Waters. The 1891 Petersville Parish Census, lists her as: Mahood / Gussie S. / F / 26 yrs / Dau / b. NB / father b. Ire / mother b. NB / Church of England / Teacher Common School. She taught in the Summer Hill School for the Winter and Summer terms of 1884, and at the Coote Hill School for the 1890-1891 terms.

MAHOOD, Florence- taught at the Coote Hill School for the June 1903 term, and at the West Jerusalem School for the term 1907-1907

MAHOOD, Samuel - Samuel m.1) Clarissa Riecker and m.2) Hannah (Short) Sharp. He d. 1873 aged 73 yrs. He was a surveyor and school teacher, and lived on the corner in Jerusalem, which became known as Mahood's Corner, later Shorts Corner, then Barnett's Corner.

MILAN, Frances- taught at the Coote Hill School for the 1947 Dec term.

MOORE, David - was b. about 1800 (60-1861) in Ireland, and arrived in Canada ca. 1824/5. The family is believed to have first settled in St Martins, Saint John County. David eventually settled in the area of Hamilton Mountain. He m. Nancy Campbell (58-1861) He d. on 24 Feb 1883, aged 83 years, and she on 8 Nov 1869, aged 65 yrs. Both are buried in the Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

David Moore - b. in Ireland, ca. 1800. It is believed he settled in New Jerusalem ca. 1824/9. He was a teacher. David died in 24 Feb 1883, and was buried in the Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

NICKERSON, W. Herbert - He taught at the Dunns Corner School, for the Jan 1901 to the Dec 1902 terms, and the Sep 1903 - Dec 1904 terms, and was at the West Jerusalem School for the term 1903-1903. He is listed in the 1901 Petersville Parish census, as William Herbert, aged 23 yrs, Baptist. He was b. 28 Feb 1878, prob. in Canning, New Brunswick. His parents were listed as William J. Nickerson and Mary Elizabeth Dougan. He was aged 12 yrs in the 1891 ed. of same parish census.

NICKERSON, William J. - taught at the Upper Hibernia School in 1892-1894 & 1897-1900; and the Summer Hill School for the 2nd Term 1893 He is listed in the 1891 census as William J. Nickerson, aged 54 yrs, and Free Baptist, He was married to Mary Elizabeth Dougan, aged 42. They were the parents of Wm. Herbert, above.

PENDER, Isabella (Bella) -d/o Beverly Pender and Alice Inch. She taught at the Dunns Corner School for the Sep 1921 - Jun 1922 terms, and later lived in Woodstock, NB

PENDER, Leila - d/o Beverly Pender and Alice Inch. Leila m. Archie McCoon, of Brown's Flats. She was listed on the 1901 Petersville Parish census, as Lelia F, aged 6 yrs, Methodist. Her b. date was 17 Feb 1894.

PENDER, Mary H. - d/o Beverly Pender and Alice Inch. The 1901 Petersville Parish census lists her age as 4 yrs, Methodist, b. 8 Mar 1897, NB. She taught at the West Jerusalem School for the term 1917-1917
