History of Dunns' Corner
Dunns' Corner apparently came into existence when school districts were established approximately every 3 miles (so students would have a maximum of 1 ½ miles to walk) and was registered as Corbetts' Corner in the first school records of the district. Before school districts were established in the 1870s it appears that the northern part was known as Summer Hill and the southern part Headline and Petersville. There was references to a Petersville Church Post Office which was in the vicinity of St. Peters Anglican Church at the top of the Headline Hill in the early history of the area.. The Summer Hill post office was located in the Dunns' Corner school district and the mail was delivered Monday to Saturday from Welsford by Fred Jones and later Frank Conners. The Summer Hill and Lawfield mail was delivered from the post office north by John Day and later Mrs. Goldie from Gagetown. The following cemeteries were located in the Dunns' Corner district, Sutton,Kerr and Kirk Presbyterian Church. A number of people were born in the Dunns' Corner school district who were quite successful in later careers including Joseph Medill 1823-1899, William James Wilson 1851-1920, Otty Corbett 1913-1981, Robert Kerr 1943-1994, and Russell McKinney 1925-2001.
